Mothers are the glue in most households.  They keep things running smoothly, food on

1. The night before make her bed, use brand new or freshly washed sheets, to give her that hotel room feel.  Maybe even turn down her bed and lay a chocolate on the pillow, mums love to be pampered too!

2. If budget and time allows you could give her room an update by getting her all new bed linen, accessories or even a whole new suite!

3. Let her sleep in – most mums are up early every day making sure lunches are packed, bags are ready and just generally getting the house and family ready for the day ahead.

4. Breakfast in bed – if the kids are old enough get them to write a menu so mum can choose her “room service” the night before.

5. A great free gift for mums is a “voucher” book.  Include vouchers for things like,
“one well behaved child for one whole day” or “I will make my bed every day for
a week without being asked” or “I will do the washing up every night for a week”.

6. The best gift you can give mum is the gift of thanks.  Every mums favourite words from her kids would have to be “I love you Mum, you’re the best”

7. Let mum relax for the day.  No housework or chores, just relax.

8. Do something your mum likes for the day, whether that is going to the movies, having lunch at the beach, going for a drive or simply spending time at the park with the kids.

9. Make her dinner, it doesn’t need to be fancy, just something you made yourself.

10. At the end of the day remind mum why she loves her job so much, give her a big hug and a kiss and let her know you love her.

With Australia Day just around the corner, we’ve got the BBQ set up and prepped for a serious day of cooking. What have you got planned? If you are struggling with ideas here’s some tips to make sure you have the ultimate BBQ:

• Clean your BBQ! You don’t want to be cooking on a dirty BBQ. Using cooking paper on the hot plate section also helps with cooking marinated meats.
• Make sure you have a enough gas – you don’t want to be serving up half cooked sausages on the day
• Buy the day before – you don’t want to be stressed with having to buy food on the day and remember many grocery stores don’t open until later on Australia Day. Try your local farmers markets as well to source affordable and fresh meat and vegetables to cook up. Think corn, mushrooms, onions etc
• Marinate steak the night before or 4 hours prior to cooking.

• Avoid pricking your sausages so you do they lose flavour.

Q: How did you become a stylist and why? And how long have you been styling for?

A: I actually have a strong background in the health industry, and stumbled across the events industry, which is where the styling interest was born. It was all ‘very meant to be’. I’ve always had a love for creative design. My now business partner, Kelly introduced me to the events  industry, which is a melting pot industry like no other, combining fashion, styling, interiors & visual elements. I love what I do as no one day is like the next – one week I will be styling a multi-million dollar riverfront home, the next I will be involved in styling a photo shoot, and the next setting up beautiful beachfront weddings. I love the creative aspect, but also like where it fits into the world of business. It has been a relatively short 2^nd career – I’ve been in the industry for about 5 years.

Q: Where do you get your inspiration from?

A: I get my inspiration from everything around me. My inspiration finds its identity from a range of styles, fashion labels, colours, trends and icons. I am enchanted by Jacqui Onassis, everything at Anthropologie, the era of art deco, urban architecture, all that shimmers and sparkles, French champagne shared with friends, New York in winter, Vogue, Colin Cowie, red lips, city lights as the sun goes down. The list goes on and on….

Q: What were your favourite pieces to work with on the Super A-Mart shoot?

A: My favourite pieces to work with on this project were the fabulous cushions and rugs. What a diverse range of colours & textures! They are two of the most simple and cost effective ways to add style to any room in the house. And remember, they don’t always have to match perfectly – have fun mixing it up!

Q: With Christmas fast approaching, do you have any tips on decorating the house on a budget?

A: Keep it simple with cool neutral colours and build from there. Bright and vibrant colours are in this season, however less is more when it comes to pop colours. For example, if you love red use mainly neutral cushions on your lounge with one or two varying textured and patterned red cushions. This can be highlighted with minimal colour palette accents through the room (eg a red frame or vase). Less is usually more when it comes to pop colours, especially if they are bold colours. Styling rooms this way allows for easy transitions when you want to change colours in a new season.
